Mamma Hen Brooding Piglets

    We have hundreds of hens here at the farm. There are always a few rogue birds that don't want to live with their other sisters as part of our eggs laying operation.  They tend to find an alternative living arrangement with the pigs.  They clean up what the pigs spill out of their bowls and then roost near where the pigs sleep. Since no predators mess with the pigs, they fill the role of an "accidental protector" of the rogue birds.     

    One morning, Morgan was in the pig shelter checking in on the new piglets and found this situation.  All of us were blown away at how instincts manifest in such crazy ways!  Who would have ever thought this was possible?  You can see in the video that when Morgan moves the hen away, the piglet misses the warmth and tries to move back under her. Just amazing!
