Why is the loading important? It's simple, this is the highest stress situation any animal will experience in its life. It also plays a key role in the quality of the meat. Stress causes the release of hormones that negatively impact the meat we consume. If there is a major stress hormones release just before butchering, it has an even greater impact.
We winter our mamma pigs in an area of very deep wood chips. At the time of this video, they are transitioning into the southern woodlands where they will have their babies in the summer and fall.
